Sebelumnya Ferdinand  adalah teknisi yang menciptakan mobil pertama Volkswagen. 

Jika sejarah mobil Porsche ini kita ditarik ke belakang hingga tahun 1948, dimana dimulainya dengan tipe 356 yang bentuknya masih terasa sangat mirip dengan Volkswagen Beetle.
